Everyone has been raving about Xbox One’s backwards compatibility, but Sony might have decided to roll out some kind of PlayStation 2 emulation on PlayStation 4 without telling anyone. It was hinted to developers back in January 2014 that there existed an emulator, but nothing was leaked after this news other than some ratings that showed up on PEGI during the PS4 3.0 firmware beta phase.

So here it is, Sony has rolled out PlayStation 2 emulation with no press or build up and it comes with some so-so titles to start with. The PlayStation 4 Star Wars bundle has come with four classic titles for the franchise: Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, Star Wars: Racer Revenge and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. They came on one PSN code and yes, three of these titles are PlayStation 2 games and once Digital Foundry loaded them up they found that they were running on emulation.

Techradar reached out to Sony to get a comment on what could be a huge step for company. Sony replied:

“We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”

Now all we can do is wait and see where this goes. Are you excited for PlayStation 2 games on PlayStation 4? Let us remember, most of the PlayStation 3 models were not able to play PlayStation 2 games so this could be really good news for every Sony fan.
