Kadokawa Games has announced a new mystery adventure game titled Root Letter. The game is set to release on the PS4 and PS Vita and will have a worldwide release in Spring 2016.

Root Letter is a youth mystery adventure and drama set in the Shimane Prefecture. The game will feature two gameplay sections, an adventure part and a simulation part. The story is outlined as:

“Melt the frozen past, and begin walking towards the future.”

Root Letter is the first in a new series of mystery games by Kadokawa Games. You can check out the official English description of the game below.

The first title of the series “Kadokawa Game Mystery.” A collection of adventure games that explore human drama, featuring local Japanese culture and history.

Root Letter is set in the Shimane prefecture, a land with a rich history and beautiful nature.

The player will engage an adventure to solve the mystery of Fumino Aya, a pen pal friend from high school who disappeared after leaving a mysterious letter. A letter delivered 15 years later…

The character designs and planning for Root Letter will be handled by Mino Taro. Taro is best known for doing the character designs for LovePlus. Zin Hasegawa will act as Director for the game and Nitta Takafumi will compose the music. Dario Fuji will write the scenario and Yoshimi Yasuda will be the Producer for Root Letter.

So far only one character has been revealed. The character is named Aya Fumino and she will be voiced by Noriko Hidaka. You can check out her character description below (translation from Gematsu).

Now, 15 years later, you find her last letter written just before graduation, and your idea of her is transformed. Was the school life she told you of all a lie? The truth lies in Shimane. Head there and discover the truth behind her identity.

Root Letter is scheduled for a worldwide release in Spring 2016. Along with the announcement there was a debut trailer. You can check out the trailer below.
