Sword Art Online Movie

At Dengeki Fall Festival 2015, a new project in the Sword Art Online franchise was announced.  The series will be getting a brand new anime movie, produced by A-1 Pictures. Reki Kawahara, the creator of the Sword Art Online light novel series, will be returning to write a new original story just for the movie. A teaser for the movie has also been streamed, you can check it out below.

The movie project will be directed by Tomohiko Ito, director for the previous seasons of Sword Art Online, and the character designs are being handled by Shingo Adachi who also worked on the TV series. More information about the movie will be revealed by Kadokawa in the October 10 issue of Dengeki Bunko Magazine.

Sword Art Online is a light novel series authored by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec. The first volume was released in April 2009.  It is published by ASCII Media Works under its Dengeki Bunko imprint. The series has grown to include multiple types of media including a highly popular anime series, multiple video games, and manga spin-offs. This new film is the latest in the Sword Art Online anime project.

Are you excited for this new entry in the Sword Art Online anime project? Are you surprised they decided to create an original story just for the film? I’m excited to see what Reki Kawahara has in store for us in this movie. Aniplex USA has also updated their official website for Sword Art Online so it’s safe to say they have already licensed the film for North America.
