Before I start, I want to give a shout out to my brother and his wife as they welcomed their second child earlier this week. Congrats to the two of them as well as to the new big brother.

Anyway, ladies and gentlemen of the internet, take this only as seriously as you wish. It is time for a heavily Nintendo flavored King and Kong.

KING

Tatsumi Kimishima - Press Conference

While he won’t get it this week — since his promotion was technically announced in Japan on Monday of this current week — I’d like to congratulate Tatsumi Kimishima on becoming the fifth President of Nintendo. The man will now oversee operations of one of the biggest and most recognizable companies in gaming. In addition, he will also be overseeing the development of the Quality of Life initiative started by Satoru Iwata, the beginning of Nintendo on mobile platforms, the launch of a new console (coming next year at the earliest), the new push to get Nintendo IPs onto the big screen, and a few other things that I either covered earlier this week or am missing at the moment. Good luck with that.

Pikmin - King and Kong

The winner this week goes out to all the Pikmin fans. This comes from the news that Pikmin 4 has been revealed to be well into development.

That’s right! You get a King crown. And you get a King crown. And you get a King crown… What? You didn’t want a crown? Too bad, you’re getting one!

This is some excellent news for a series that had a decade and a console generation between releases. The series has been critically acclaimed since its first release in 2001 but has seen improvements with each iteration. Pikmin 2 dropped the 30 day limit while Pikmin 3 added additional captains you could control for a larger variety of missions. Hopefully, Pikmin 4 will continue that trend and be the best game in the series yet, no matter what console it will release for.

KONG

Nintendo - King and Kong

As you may have guessed, it’s Nintendo themed. But as a matter of fact, it’s Nintendo themselves.

Now… I’m sure some of you will probably say that this is because of the YouTube strikes on ROM hacks and Tool-Assisted Speedruns. However, I’m not going to go after them because of this. After all, these were people that abused the product they bought [ED. NOTE: Whoops; probably should’ve said pirated, which is also wrong that should be curtailed]. And frankly, if you’re using hacks to do a speedrun, you may as well be a PED user in athletics.

And while I could put them up here for additional claims they put up this past week — which includes but isn’t limited to Suzy Berhow, a.k.a. Mortem3r, and her Kitty Kat Gaming channel having a Super Mario Maker video claimed (I only know this after hearing the story in a Game Grumps livestream) — but, no, this does not get them on here. Besides, this sort of thing has been going on for almost a year now since Nintendo announced their Multi-Channel Network.

No, this one goes out to Nintendo for something completely different: Pokemon GO, the second Nintendo mobile game. Sure, it looks like it will be an interesting and could lead to some interesting stories, like a boy wandering into the girl’s locker room to catch a Jigglypuff. But it brings up an important question:

Why hasn’t the Pokemon Trading Card Game Online been put on mobile yet? Seriously, the application has been in beta for years and is already being developed for a non-Nintendo platform. Why not put it on mobile? Have you learned nothing from Hearthstone?

Nintendo giveth the crown, and we giveth right back. The producer of Kings is last week’s Kong.
