PS4

The good news is that the PlayStation 4 is getting a price drop. The bad news is its Japanese PS4s only. Sony has announced today that Japanese PS4 will go down in price from ¥39,000 to ¥34,980, about $41 difference. The price drop goes into effect on October 1st in Japan.

In Japan, all home consoles struggle to sell, including the PS4. As of March, the system has sold more than 20 million units worldwide. Japan only accounts for about 1.4 million of those sales. Part of the problem is the lack of PS4 software compelling to Japan, but the main problem in general is that Japan is more of a mobile market. The system does well everywhere else, which might explain the Japan only price drop.

Sony has not announced a priced drop for any other territories.

Karli Winata
Karli Winata is an avid gamer with a taste for a little bit of everything. Except for sports games. And racing sims. And definitely not hidden object games! I guess everything is too broad a term. Suffice it to say that he has been known to play hours of Call of Duty multiplayer in between bouts of Persona fusing and Star Coin collecting while saving the world/galaxy through sensibly bald space marines or plucky teenagers with impossible hairstyles. Where does he find the time to write about them?
