Umbrella Corps | Resident Evil

After the most recent game, Resident Evil: Revelations 2, which came out a few months ago, there’s been speculation on what’ll happen next for the Resident Evil franchise. In the last month, there’s been sightings that Capcom had trademarked something titled “Umbrella Corps” on the Office Harmonization In the Internal Market (also known as OHIM), with Umbrella Corps being based on the infamous company known in the franchise responsible for many things outbreak related. In recent news, DualShockers found out that in the Japanese Patent and Trademark Office, Umbrella Corps is trademarked as Biohazard: Umbrella Corps in Japan, Biohazard being Resident Evil‘s Japanese name. It’s been stated that in Europe, Umbrella Corps was also trademarked under the Biohazard/Resident Evil name as well.

So far, there is nothing official from Capcom itself on what this could mean. Could this be the eponymous Resident Evil 7 that has been rumored, or have any relation? The last game that had Umbrella in its title was 2007’s Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, a on-rail shooter spin-off that summarized events of Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil, and Resident Evil 3 and showed how the evil Umbrella Corporation fell. There was also another spin-off game in 2012 that had players take on the roles of Umbrella soldiers in a non-canon scenario for Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City,  which was a third person shooter. Thus far, the next release in the series is an HD remaster of Resident Evil 0.
