Roy and Lucas | Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS

During a mini-Direct this morning, Nintendo unveiled some of the new DLC coming to Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS.

The first thing they announced was a couple new characters. Roy, from the Fire Emblem series, and Lucas from Mother 3 have been confirmed. Roy was leaked yesterday, and Lucas was announced previously. The video showed off Roy’s redesign and his new Final Smash. These characters will cost $3.99 each on either the Wii U or 3DS, or $4.99 each on both.

Mii Fighters - Wave 2 | Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS

More Mii Fighter costumes were also revealed. These include Megaman.EXE (gunner) and Zero (swordfighter) from the Mega Man Battle Network series, Isabelle (gunner) from the Animal Crossing series, the Inkling Boy and Girl (gunner), as well as a Squid Hat, from Splatoon, and Jacky Bryant (brawler) and Akira Yuki (brawler) from the Virtua Fighter series. Splatoon trophies were shown as well. The costumes will cost $0.75 each for either the Wii U or 3DS, and $1.15 each on both.

MiiVerse Stage | Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS

The Direct also touched upon new stages coming to the game. A Dreamland stage, based upon the one in Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64, will be available. This stage will have an Omega form. Dreamland will cost $1.99 for either the Wii U or 3DS, or $2.99 for both. Nintendo also showed off a new MiiVerse-themed stage. A MiiVerse community will be opened for each character, and any posts to those communities will show up in the background of that character’s matches as a show of support. The MiiVerse stage will be available for free. New stages based upon Hyrule Castle and Peach’s Castle were teased for future updates.

Ryu | Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS

As a final announcement, Nintendo revealed Ryu from the Street Fighter series, has been officially confirmed. This would have been a major surprise if it weren’t for yesterday’s leak. Considering that the Street Fighter games use significantly more buttons than Smash, the video went into detail as to how to execute Ryu’s various moves, including the Shoryuken, which if entered using the same way as in the original games will give you a stronger attack that can result in a K.O. I recommend giving the video a watch if you want to learn more. Along with Ryu, there will be a stage based on Suzaku Castle. The stage uses music from the original games. To finish off the Street Fighter crossover, Ryu and Ken trophies were announced. The Ryu fighter and Suzaku Castle stage DLC will be sold as a set for $5.99 for either the Wii U or 3DS, or $6.99 on both systems.
