Ratchet & Clank - PlayStation 4

To coincide with the upcoming Ratchet & Clank movie, a re-imagining of the original game is being made for the PlayStation 4. News has been circulating since last year, and now we’re getting some new trailers of the game, this time showing off some gameplay footage and story cutscenes. The trailers show off some old planets like Metropolis and Kerwan, along with some major gameplay such as the Snagglebeast boss fight, Clank gameplay sequences and new planets.

James Stevenson from Insomniac Games had this to say about the game:

We ended up with a new game, with elements based on the original — but now with modern controls, several new planets, new and updated gameplay segments, all-new Clank gameplay, all new boss fights, new flight sequences, and more… all constructed to take advantage of the graphical prowess of PS4. Throw in James Arnold Taylor as Ratchet, and you have a new beginning.

Along with new gameplay like the flying sequences and new planets to explore, some familiar weapons were added in as well. These include some of the Future Trilogy’s staples such as the Groovitron, which makes all enemies dance, and Mr. Zurkon, a ‘bodyguard’ for Ratchet that talks smack to enemies. A new weapon, the Pixelizer, is shown as well, which has the ability to turn enemies 8-bit. The trailer shows a pre-order bonus, too: the Bouncer from Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando, available at exclusive retailers; the weapon sends out small bombs that scatter and target enemies.

An 8-minute gameplay preview has been uploaded to YouTube as well, showing off a new planet the Snagglebeast from the trailer, and a new planet, Aleero.

Ratchet & Clank for the PlayStation 4 is set to come out in Spring of next year along with the movie, which airs in theaters on April 2016.
