Famitsu has just broken the news that the Guilty Gear Xrd series is receiving an expansion titled: Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-. This is a follow up to the previous entry, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, released in North America at the end of last year with a European release coming to PSN on June 3rd.

Revelator is only officially scheduled for Japanese arcades at the moment. Two locations test periods are tentatively noted in Famitsu’s article: June 5th through June 7th, and June 19th through June 21st. What’s likely to happen is that characters and stages will be incrementally rolled out over time, with a comprehensive release of Revelator’s new content to come later for the PlayStation consoles (do note that some characters were only accessible on consoles via DLC – Elphelt and Leo!) Considering Sign appeared on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, we should expect this to continue.

The first character revealed for the expansion is Johnny, a series regular since Guilty Gear X. With a unique fighting style and a rather prominent Story Mode appearance in Sign (considering that he wasn’t a playable character) he was basically a shoo-in for a future release, but it’s still nice to see more of the familiar characters come back. In addition, a silhouette for another character was teased (reproduced below) but it doesn’t really look like any of the known Guilty Gear characters. It seems like it’s too much of a stretch to say that the silhouette could be Bridget.

I wonder which characters we’ll see? There were a couple who had interesting moments or a noteworthy presence in the Sign’s Story Mode like Dizzy, Gabriel, and Dr. Paradigm (the latter two have not been playable in a Guilty Gear fighting game before), but of course there are still veterans who have yet to return.

Besides the talk of characters, it looks like there will also be a version of May’s Xrd stage taking place during sunset in Revelator (probably meant for our freshly announced returnee,) and a different version of I-No’s stage, Ramlethal’s stage, and Bedman’s stage.
