SEGA Mobile | oprainfall

SEGA has just recently removed many of its mobile games for Google Play, the iOS, Samsung and Amazon app stores. These plans were first announced by SEGA on May 8:

“It is important for us to ensure that all of our fans, regardless, of platform or operating system, have a great playing experience and after evaluating our complete list of titles, we have determined that a number of them no longer meet our standards.”

This is probably a part of SEGA’s recent announcement to prioritize the more immediately-profitable mobile games over console games, though SEGA has assured us that the mobile games will have ‘console quality.’

SEGA hasn’t divulged all of the games that they would be removing, but, as it stands, the games that have been removed are as follows:

  • After Burner Climax
  • Jet Set Radio
  • Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2
  • Super Monkey Ball Tip’n’Tilt 1 &2
  • Altered Beast
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Golden Axe 1, 2 & 3
  • Phantasy Star II
  • Streets of Rage 1 & 3
  • Space Harrier II
  • Virtua Fighter 2

I find it interesting that there are no Sonic games in that list, but, then again, being at quality of a console, Sonic game might not be that much of a challenge. SEGA has assured that those who have already purchased games will still be able to download them, though only until they stop being compatible with updated operating system.

SEGA has said these games may return in updated formats, but there’s no guarantee, so, for now, these games are floating in the ether. Will we now start seeing phones with Ecco the Dolphin on eBay?
