According to a Twitter post from Let’s Talk Nintendo, Super Smash Bros. director, Masahiro Sakurai, will be a presenter at the Fire Emblem 25th Anniversary Concert. Could he be planning to make a “Smashing” announcement related to Fire Emblem at that time? It is certainly a possibility, especially since the Fire Emblem character, Roy, is already rumored to be making his return to Super Smash Bros. (along with Ryu) as we recently reported.
While that is still just a rumor at this point, this upcoming appearance by Masahiro Sakurai could change that. I would personally be happy to see Roy return to Super Smash Bros. and enter the fray once more. He has been absent from the battles for quite some time now, ever since he was essentially ousted from the series by Ike (from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for GameCube and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for Wii).
Some friends and I quite literally played the heck out of Super Smash Bros. Melee back in the GameCube era, and Roy was a character that some of us quite liked. He was fun to play as and was one of my favorite characters at the time. He was also the absolute favorite melee fighter for one of my friends, as well. While Ike is a great character and certainly deserves to be in Super Smash Bros. too, it was disappointing to see Roy get left behind.
So, hopefully, when Masahiro Sakurai speaks at the Fire Emblem 25th Anniversary Concert, he will perhaps reveal Roy as one of the upcoming DLC characters for Super Smash Bros. on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U! Perhaps Roy is busy training right now for his potential triumphant return to the many brawling arenas in Super Smash. Bros. He’s got a bunch of new challengers waiting for him if he does rejoin the Smash roster, so some training might be wise!
