On April 1, 2014, Operation Power Up created an April Fool’s page and blog post about Nester being playable in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

One year later, on April 1, 2015, Nintendo announced through their Nintendo Direct a Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot, where fans can write in their favorite video-game character that they would like to see in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U as DLC.

After the well received reaction of the idea of Nester being playable as well as the dismay of fans discovering it was an April Fool’s joke, it’s clear what our next mission has to be. We have to get Nester into Smash Bros.!

Nester for Super Smash Bros.
For real this time!

For those wondering why we chose Nester and not Ridley, Waluigi, Groose, etc.? Nester originated from the Nintendo Power comics and was Nintendo Power’s mascot. He even starred in his own game for the Virtual Boy.

We demand a 3DS remake!

So, with that in mind, we chose him for he was a big part of Nintendo of America’s early history and he connected with a lot of us older Nintendo fans.

He’s so like us.

How can you help? Simple, just vote for Nester on the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot! You can also help by spreading the word of Nester for Smash using the hashtag #NesterForSmash

With your help, we can have a piece of Nintendo Power history preserved in Super Smash Bros. for both younger and older generations to discover and appreciate.

For those new to Operation: Power Up, we’re a group of dedicated fans persuading Nintendo of America to bring back Nintendo Power as a digital publication and/or a website. With fan publications such as Pure Nintendo and Nintendo Force, there’s still a market for a dedicated Nintendo publication. Our mission is simple: we want to get back the Power. Nintendo Power!

See you next mission!
