Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem

The newest trailer for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem is more than meets the eye.

Nintendo and Atlus shocked the JRPG masses with the newest trailer for the long dormant Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. While most were happy to see that the project was alive and well, quite a few were puzzled by the supposed crossover game’s trailer. While the game does seem to have some gameplay and character connections from both of the featured series, the overall look of the game was not overtly Shin Megami Tensei or Fire Emblem.

With that in mind, the Serenes Forest website has come up with an analysis of the reveal trailer to see what connections could be found. Aside from finding out the four characters in the above image’s name, (from left to right: Kiria Kurono, Tsubasa Oribe, Itsuki Aoi, and Toma Akagi) it appears there are several references to both the Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem series. On the Fire Emblem side, several characters from the series seem to make an appearance in one form or another, with others being represented through outfits the characters wear. On the SMT side, the modern-day setting and turned-based battle system are more obvious references, but some things near the end of the trailer may be a clear connection to the original Shin Megami Tensei game.

While it may be a while before more information about Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem is revealed, it is comforting to know that the connections to both of the beloved RPG franchises are more than what they seem. Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem is set to come to the Wii U in 2016.
