Capcom is bringing  Dragon’s Dogma Online to consoles and PC this year with a free-to-play model.

Dragon’s Dogma, one of Capcom’s most recent IPs, is set to return this year in Japan.  Dragon’s Dogma Online will combine four player open-world monster slaying with elements of an MMO, along with a free-to-play model.  The game will be produced by Minae Matsukawa, executive produced by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, and directed by Kent Kinoshita.

Dragon’s Dogma Online will take place in a brand new world called Lestaria, with a new Awakened character whose appearance can be customized to the player’s liking.  Players can select one of four currently confirmed jobs: Fighter, Hunter, Priest and Shield Sage.  Players can then team up in parties of four, or create and fight alongside pawns — CPU party members from previous games in the series.  The gameplay will be similar to previous entries as well, and players will be able to congregate in 100-person town lobbies.  The free-to-play element will involve buying items for use in the game, but Capcom insists that the gameplay experience “will still feel like a proper Dragon’s Dogma game.”

Dragon’s Dogma Online is scheduled to release in Japan on PS3, PS4, and PC later this year
