Building Character | Nepgear

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2: Sister’s Generation has just released here in the West. In celebration, Building Character will be talking at a look at the sisters, who have stolen the spotlight this time around. We will be showing why they are all just as great as their older sisters. This piece will focus on Neptune’s sister, Nepgear.

As many of you know, each landmass in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series represents a console. Neptune and Nepgear hail from Planeptune, which is the Sega landmass. Whereas the big sisters represent consoles, the little sisters are the handhelds. So, Nepgear’s name likely comes from the Sega GameGear.

Neptunia Re;Birth2 Nepgear | Waifu

Nepgear acts much more mature than Neptune, and usually babies her sister every chance she gets. I often wonder if some of this stems from when they were all held captive at the Gameindustri Graveyard. Her being imprisoned there with the other CPUs is likely what lead to the confidence issues that plaque her throughout much of Hyperdimension MK2’s story.

Though Nepgear is close with all of the sisters, much like how Neptune and Noire are close, she is very close to Lastation’s Uni. Though Uni is very much a Tsundere, like her sister, and would likely own up to her feeling for her very easily. Nepgear is a target for Vert’s affection, and since Vert has no little sister she tries to steal Nepgear away from Neptune every chance she gets. She is also very close with twins, which makes Blanc a bit jealous at times, but they all do get along very well.

Neptunia Re;Birth2 | Red

It is revealed in Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory that she has a love for machines, so much that Neptune will often question her sanity. She is always tinkering with things and invents a few things, though most of them do not always work as planned. Though she does manage to repair a giant mech that Neptune can summon into battle.

While some players found Nepgear to be a bit plain and boring, I’ve always found her rather soothing. She balances out Neptune’s craziness and has a distinct personality all her own. Her over the top love of machines coupled with her big sister charm makes her very appealing. She is also very cute, which is probably why Neptune spends a lot time shooing the boys away from her precious little sister.

As the site admin, he will continue to do this and even show there is value in what some would deem "pure ecchi." He loves niche games and anime more than anything... well, except maybe Neptune.
