Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward

Yesterday, Square Enix announced the first expansion to their critically acclaimed MMO Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The expansion will be called Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward and they say it will be released in early Spring 2015. A trailer has been released as well, which looks pretty impressive.

The expansion will also include several additions to the game, including a fourth city-state known as The Holy See of Ishgard. Several massive new areas and challenging new dungeons will be added as well, along with new high-end raids, new gear and recipes, several new jobs, airships, and new primals. Finally, a new playable race will be added as well, which are hinted to be the Viangaa.

The expansion will take place primarily in Ishgard, and focus on the Dragonsong War, a bloody thousand year war between Ishgard and Dravinia. It will also deal with the Wyrmking versus Thordan and his Knights Twelve.

Ishgard will be governed by an archbishop and controlled by four noble houses, the city will be physically divided to separate the privileged from the commoners. The city’s fields will include previously inaccessible regions beyond the Coerthas Highlands, such as Dravinia and other beast tribe-ruled domains. It will be made up of treacherous mountains and floating land masses above and beyond a sea of clouds.

Finally, the level cap will be increased from 50 to 60.
