Cardcaptor Sakura | Sakura

Fans of Cardcaptor Sakura are in luck. Crunchyroll has recently announced that the series will be streaming on its service starting on Tuesday, August 12th, at 9PM EDT/6PM PDT. This is happening one week after NIS America released the full series on Blu-ray and DVD on August 5th.

For those that don’t know, Cardcaptor Sakura started as a shōjo manga in the mid-90s. The story revolved around an elementary school girl named Sakura Kinomoto who used magical powers to retrieve spirits that escaped from a deck of magical cards that she accidentally freed.

The manga was adapted into an anime that originally aired in Japan from 1998 to 2000. The series was licensed out to Nelvana, who would localize it for English audiences as Cardcaptors. While the full 70 were shown in most regions, viewers in the United States were treated to an abridged version of the series, with only 39 episodes airing and a major focus being on trying to draw in the male audience with lots of action. Other than importing (or going to Canada), this stream (as well as the DVD/Blu-ray release) will be the first time the audience in the States will be able to see the full series in English.
