Amiibo | E3 2014

At their E3 Digital Event on Tuesday, Nintendo revealed their figurine project, Amiibo. The new line of small figurines are quite similar to those that accompany games like Skylanders or Disney Infinity, and will be compatible with several Wii U titles including the upcoming  Super Smash Bros. Not only will the Amiibo figurines appear in game when the figure is touched to the gamepad, but each individual figure’s fighting style will evolve as they are used in Super Smash Bros. on Wii U .

In a recent interview Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America president, discussed the pricing of the figurines:

Q: How much will the upcoming Amiibo game figurines cost in stores?
A: You can expect them to be comparable to the Disney and Skylander products that are on the market. [They cost $10 to $15.]

In addition to the new details on the approximate pricing of the figurines, thanks to NeoGAF user vinnygambini, some pictures of the figurines as they will be packed for sale are now available:

Amibo | Villager and Peach

Amiibo | Kirby

Amiibo | Pikachu

Amiibo | Pit

So what do you think of the new Amiibo figures? Will you be lining up to start your collection or will you pass? Let us know in the comments below. And be sure to stay tuned to oprainfall for more details on Amiibo and Super Smash Bros.

  • James Best

$10-$15? Not bad. I’ll be collecting a few of these.

  • Raymond

Get me one with little mac on it and you got your self a deal. lol

  • Tara

I’ll probably get Fox, Pikachu, and Marth. We’ll see if they’ll even be possible to get. 😛 Let’s hope they don’t do something stupid like “exclusive to retailer X” crap.

  • handsomejack47

10/10 will would collect all of them.

  • WiicardoBA

    Sigh*…Gotta Catch ’em all

  • Adam Miller

Why does Nintendo hate the Falcon?

  • Vinicius

And they will be costing 40 dollars in my country.

  • Klagmar

I’m just glad they’re not required purchases in order to play as the respective character (*cough* Skylanders). Makes me feel like I can buy one or two without needing them all.

  • Nick McGuire

    Great. More money. >.>
I much prefer to have the game when I buy it. Not after I buy it, and a dozen other things. Character customizing on the 3DS that transfers just fine to the WiiU? So what’s the excuse to not include it on the WiiU in the first place? >_>

    • Tim Mazzola

Character customization is available on the Wii U, that’s not what Amiibo does.

    • Nick McGuire

      I… didn’t say that’s what Amiibo does…
At any rate, from what I’ve read, your customized character is WiiU compatible, but to actually do the customizing, you have to have the 3DS version and transfer said data.

    • Tim Mazzola

Nope, we’ve seen footage of character customization on the Wii U version.

  • Vallen

Link and Pit are a must buy! (please release a mega man figure)

    • Thomas Johnson

Since these are meant to work across multiple games, I seriously doubt Mega Man will be a figure. They don’t have the rights to put him in other games.

  • Tyrannikos

I’ll slowly get Samus, Fox, Link and Kirby. Probably stop there for good.
