Some new story details and a big pile of screenshots are now available for Hyrule Warriors, the upcoming colaboration between Temco Koei and Nintendo for the Wii U. Initially announced at the end of last year, Hyrule Warriors combines gameplay aspects of Dynasty Warriors with the world of The Legend of Zelda series. The game is due out in Japan on August 14th, and North American and European releases are planned for sometime this year.
In a recent preview from Famitsu, some details surrounding the game’s plot were revealed. It’s unlikely anyone will be surprised to know that the game centers around Hyrule, which has again been overrun by evil forces. Zelda has, of course, been kidnapped and must be rescued. The game’s main villan is Cia, who was originally charged with maintaining the balance of the Triforce. She, however, developed feelings for Link and grew jealous of Zelda for being with him. Cia’s thoughts eventually came to be controlled by an evil entity that was previously sealed away, and this threw Hyrule into chaos. Link then must oppose Cia and her companions Valga and Wiz in order to save Hyrule and Zelda.
Link, who is a warrior in training, is tasked with fighting off Shia and her minions. Although soldiers usually don grey armor, Link is given his usual green garb by Impa, who senses that the outfit emits a special power in response to Link.
In addition to the preview from Famitsu, an official site has been launched for the game, and with it came a ton of screenshots which can be viewed in the gallery below. So be sure to check them out and stay tuned for more news on Hyrule Warriors.
