Yu Suzuki - Shenmue Creator | oprainfall

Yu Suzuki, known for the masterpiece that is Shenmue, has been off everyone’s radar ever since Shenmue Online fell apart. Over the last few years he did return to the gaming world with mobile titles through his own company YS.Net but there has been little word on his previous franchises. Noble fans just assumed that it was a passing dream that we would ever get the intended Shenmue 3.

All of that changed when Suzuki gave a recent interview with Eurogamer. They asked if he ever planned on returning to the Shenmue franchise and if he would use something like Kickstarter to raise funds. Since, after all, the last two Shenmue games cost a total of $70 million to make ($98 after inflation). His answer gives fans much to hope for.

“Yes,” Suzuki answered. “I am researching it.”

Suzuki did not go into any specifics on how much money he thinks he might need nor when he might go on and make it happen. Yet fans can breathe easy at least knowing that he’s thinking about it.

As for what he’s doing now, Suzuki played coy.

“Just now, I don’t have anything I can say yet,” he smiled. “I can’t announce right now – but I’m making something.”

Considering that Shenmue is often considered one of the greatest games ever made, no matter what it is we’re going to be excited for it.
