Shovel Knight

Shovel Knight has been pushed back from its intended March 31st released date. Yacht Club Games, the developers, hasn’t announced a new release date “until it’s 100% locked in with both Nintendo and Steam,” but assured us that the delay will be no longer than a few weeks. A more exact date will be announced “very soon.”

“This isn’t a major delay,” Yacht Club Games explains. “It’s simply a stretch of time to get everything polished and aligned.” The team is working on finalizing dialogue and scripted events, balancing the game, and just general testing. Polish aside, Shovel Knight is, to use their words, “so done.”

Either to alleviate this setback or just sheer coincidence, Jake Kaufman, the game’s composer, has posted some new music from Shovel Knight. Here is the level theme from the Propeller Knight stage and the Boss Music (past the 4:16 mark).

For added technical geekery, Kaufman boasts that the code for the music in Shovel Knight can technically be fed into an NES and will sound exactly as is. “This isn’t some lame NES soundalike program,” Kaufman writes. “It’s data that can actually compile and run on a real Famicom console!”

Shovel Knight will be digging its way to the Wii U and PC via Steam and will be released some weeks after March 31st. Yacht Club Games will also release a soundtrack with about 50 tracks of the game.

Suffice it to say that he has been known to play hours of Call of Duty multiplayer in between bouts of Persona fusing and Star Coin collecting while saving the world/galaxy through sensibly bald space marines or plucky teenagers with impossible hairstyles. Where does he find the time to write about them?
