Uncle Sam | oprainfall

oprainfall is currently seeking qualified, hard-working, dedicated individuals to join our staff. Right now, we need authors, reporters and Japanese translators! Please note that this is a volunteer position. While monetary compensation isn’t involved, the experience gained, relationships formed and chance to spread news of worthy video games is well worth it! We also have a fantastic assortment of opinion series you can take advantage of to share your voice with thousands and thousands of fellow video game enthusiasts!

Overall, we are looking for authors who are available to contribute at least a few articles each week during the day or early evening, reporters who are able to dig up at least a few news stories each week and translators who are able to translate at least a few articles each week for us. Our articles range from 75–2,000 words, depending on the type of article, with news articles being shorter and reviews and opinion pieces being longer.

We can and will train you to use our website and use our resources to find news. Training lasts about a week and is spaced out in such a way that you will not be overwhelmed. Our friendly training staff are on duty more often than not to answer any questions you may have and walk you through the process. It is a lot to take in but well worth it!

Who We Need

Japanese Translators

Did you learn Japanese to play video games but would love to use your skill with the language for a greater cause? Why not help us translate articles?!

Requirements

Currently, we are seeking Japanese translators who can translate news articles from Japanese to English for us. Translators should have at least intermediate proficiency in Japanese. Applicants must have a solid command of basic grammar, should know hiragana and katakana like the back of their hand, and should know some kanji on the Japanese third-grade level, at least. In other words, you must be fluent enough to understand a Famitsu article. You will be credited in our articles for each contribution you make.

Authors

Update: Thank you so much for your enthusiasm, guys! All author positions have been filled. Thank you for your interest, and keep an eye out for any future calls for staff!

Have you ever wanted to write your own video game-related articles that thousands upon thousands of people will see? If so, you’re in the right place.

Requirements

We are looking for authors who are willing to cover all types of games on any system. We here at oprainfall feel every system is deserving and like to maintain a balance between them. If applying, please forward a writing sample for our review. Anything will do—a short story, a blog post, even an old high-school or college essay. oprainfall authors are expected to write a minimum of two news articles per week, which should take about an hour of your time.

Reporters

Do you spend all day browsing video game websites and forums looking for the latest news? Why not do that and do something productive while you’re at it?! Reporters look for news we can use around the Internet and share it with us. It really is as simple as it sounds. If you don’t currently do this but feel you would like to, have no fear—we will train you!

Requirements

Anybody can apply to be a reporter. Reporters will need to report at minimum three relevant news items per week, which should take about an hour of your time. Relevancy is key! The news you share should encompass all types of games and systems. Reporters will be given access to our RSS feed and other press resources to help them find relevant video game news.

How to Apply

Please send all applications and inquiries to [email protected]. Please include your name, the position you want and any required materials. If applying to be a Japanese translator, please also indicate your level of proficiency.
