Hardware Sales

3DS 60.154
PS Vita 32.016
PS3 14.845
Wii U 14.020
PSP 4.758
Xbox 360 281

Yikes! I knew there would be a drop off from the holidays in the Media Create charts but… Yikes! For comparison, here are the hardware numbers from last week.

3DS 176.555
PS Vita 75.400
Wii U 51.271
PS3 40.085
PSP 13.283
Xbox 360 447

While the 3DS still leads, the Vita had the better percentage from last week, dropping just 57%. I guess Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster helped soften the blow. Lord knows it wasn’t the Vita TV, which continues to struggle with only 2522 units this past week for a lifetime total of 84,079 (which means the Vita TV is just under double its first week total of 42,172 two months on the market).

Wii U Console - White | Media Create - oprainfall

As for the Wii U, it suffered the worst, not only dropping like a rock but losing 73% of its sales from the previous week. And now we go back to the drawing board of games that may save the system:

  • Sonic Lost World
  • Wii Fit U
  • Wii Party U
  • Wii Sports Club
  • Super Mario 3D World – (450,000 is good, but not “system seller” good)
  • Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (February 13, 2014)
  • Mario Kart 8 (April 2014)
  • Bayonetta 2 (2014)
  • X (2014)
  • Super Smash Bros. (2014)

Well, hopefully, Japan will show some love to Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze when it releases the day before Valentine’s Day.

Honestly, from this list, it will probably take a combination of DKC: Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, and Super Smash Bros. to get the system off the ground. And hopefully there will be surprises along the way.

But there is some good news to come out of this week. Kirby: Triple Deluxe, the latest installment in the Kirby series, has released to a respectable 214,208. While I get the feeling that it’s a good number for the series, I think Kirby is upset about being placed just after the holiday bump. Why else would he look angry on the box art?
