Xenogears Perfect Works | oprainfall

Fans of Xenogears, rejoice! Japanese retailer Fukkan has put up a listing for Xenogears Perfect Works, claiming that they will begin stocking the book in March. This will come as a relief to fans such as myself who would dearly love a copy of the works, but find the current prices far too high.

I only finished Xenogears last month; it was quite a bit of trouble importing it and acquiring a console that would play it, but it was all worth it in the end. The game is phenomenal. Xenogears never saw a PAL release, so anyone in that region will, like me, find it difficult to get a hold of a copy and a console that will play it. It is available to our North American readers on the PSN for $10, so if you’re reading this and haven’t played it yet – do so!

Xenogears was developed by Squaresoft and released in 1998 for the original PlayStation. A lot of the people who worked on the game later went on to form Monolith Soft, who have given us Xenosaga, Baten Kaitos, Soma Bringer, Xenoblade Chronicles, and the upcoming X.

I’d love to make this purchase, but I’m still not sure if I could afford it. I know I’m sorely tempted though. But will any of you be buying the Xenogears Perfect Works? Let us know in the comments below!

i have Xenogears on my PS3/PSP/PSVita.

    • ink_knight

Definitely getting this book! I remember when the game first came out, I took 2 days off from school ^_^ lol

  • Ghilti

QUESTION: will they ship outside Japan?

    • Raymond Dwyer

Only one way to find out! Time for some investigative journalism…

    • anticket

Unfortunately, if my sources are correct, its only for japan. At least the website says it wont ship….

    • Raymond Dwyer

Dang. I’ll admit I hit a bit of a road block when I had to “choose prefecture.”

That said, one of my favorite purchases is the Hand in Killer7 art book I once bought from the GHM web store. I e-mailed them directly and got a response back from supposedly Jun Fukuda with instructions. I still have the packaging it came in I think.

    • Jared Cyhowski

There’s a chance another retailer like animebooks.com may pick it up. They import the books for you and all you have to do is order them 🙂

  • Raymond Dwyer

This is the best news ever… as long as it can ship internationally.

  • MoonOwl

Whoa, Elly! That is certainly some awesome news! Xenogears remains, to me, one of the most memorable RPG experiences I’ve had, from its combat system to its characters; the plot could have certainly been much better explored, were it not for a ‘certain game’ draining its funds (though I don’t know how much of that story is true), but I still love this series, so I’ll certainly try to get my hands on a copy.

I’ve always wanted perfect works but I really would only think of buying it in English, US or importing from EU. Xenogears is great, a UK friend of mine mentioned it never came out there which is sad. Is it available on PSN in UK, does anyone know?

    • Charlotte Buckingham

Nope. When I said not available in Europe, I meant both physical and digital. 🙁

    • Vhyper1985

I know this is old now but maybe someone will see it… You can actually download Xenogears on PSN in other regions, setup a new user on your PS3 & sign up to PSN but mark your region as U.S. … once registered you’ll be able to browse the U.S. store, you will need however a U.S. PSN points card in order to add funds to the U.S. store, these can be found on ebay usually! I live in the UK & had to import this back in the day but now I can use my PS3 to play it! Such a life changing game for me! 🙂 Hope this helps someone!

    • Charlotte Buckingham

Yeah, one of the other staff members has told me. 😀 I don’t have a PS3/4/Vita so I don’t have access to the PSN, but when I DO get one I’ll sure as hell be doing this. I’m not going to import any games that I could get on the NA PSN, since it’ll only be a matter of time till I can play them. xD

  • Talera Ristain

Wow, it never had a PAL release? That really sucks. This is such an excellent game. One of my tops on PS1.

    • Charlotte Buckingham

No, it didn’t. 🙁 It was completely worth the import though. It’s in my top five of all time, second only to Xenoblade.
