There hasn’t been much info when it comes to the PS4 exclusive title, The Order: 1886. Since its reveal trailer at E3 2013, many have wondered just what developer Ready at Dawn was doing with this title that blended steampunk and Victorian-era imagery.

Now, for this month’s issue of Game Informer, Ready at Dawn was prepared to reveal to journalists screenshots and information to showcase just what The Order: 1886 is all about.

We now know that The Order: 1886 was a concept being developed since 2005, and the story revolves around the Order, a quasi-Knights of the Round Table organization formed to defend humanity against splintering mutant groups that have appearing since the 7th or 8th century. Players take control of Grayson—also known as “Sir Galahad”—who, after taking the rite of passage of drinking the “black water,” has greatly extended his life to fight in this secret war for centuries.

For gameplay, Ready at Dawn describes multiple weapons, like the Arc Gun which was seen in the trailer. A new weapon called the Combo Gun has two different settings that can blow enemies back with a non-lethal charge or standard rifle fire. The second new weapon was the Thermite Rifle, which shoots chemicals onto enemies, then incinerates them with a well-directed flare. Frag grenades will also be available. Ready at Dawn promises the weapons will be grounded in understandable science but will be able to wow us with amazing spectacles.

The combat in The Order: 1886 will focus on third-person gunplay but will slow down to allow players to investigate and explore the world. It will also have QTEs, but Ready at Dawn promises they are going to take a unique approach on the concept. These QTEs will revolve around melee combat during the frantic gun shootouts, as activating one will slow down time and give you a chance to react in multiple ways to a dangerous situation. The reactions that Grayson will have will range from dodging a punch to grabbing an improvised weapon to hit enemies with. Ready at Dawn also confirms interactive cutscenes will be a part of The Order: 1886.

Ready at Dawn has yet to discuss the possibility of online multiplayer (both competitive and co-op) but promises that the single-player game will be strongly driven by the story and characters.

No release date has been given yet for The Order: 1886, but Game Informer details how truly beautiful the game is coming along. The Order: 1886 will be an exclusive title for the PlayStation 4.
