Princess Kaguya | Woman in Pink Robe

Princess Kaguya - oprainfall

Studio Ghibli’s upcoming film Princess Kaguya has a unique visual style all its own. The animation is done in a way that is reminiscent of traditional Japanese woodblock printing with the soft touch of watercolors. If this sounds like it’s right up your alley, check out the gallery below for some of the newest images from the movie. Princess Kaguya (also known as Kaguya-hime no Monogatari) is a retelling of the famous Japanese folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.

The movie is being helmed by Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata, whose last film was My Neighbors the Yamadas, which was released fourteen years ago. While initially scheduled to debut alongside The Wind Rises in summer 2013, Princess Kaguya had its release delayed and will premiere in Japan November 23.

What do you think about these new visuals? Is this a film you would like to see in the West? Let us know in a comment.
