Games with Gold

Games with Gold is a relatively new Microsoft program that offers Xbox Live Gold subscribers two free games a month. From September 1 to 15, 2013, Games with Gold will give away Magic: The Gathering—Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013. After that, it’s Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas from September 16 to 30 (but not for South African subscribers, who will get Shadowrun instead). Today’s the last day for August’s offers—Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Case Zero—so get them while you can.

Reactions around the Internet seem to be mixed right now. Players who are grateful for the free games feel others should give Microsoft a chance. Others say Sony’s PlayStation Plus program offers better games. Regardless of where you stand on this argument, one thing is for sure: most people won’t turn down free games, not all of them, anyhow. Even if you don’t download every one available, it is almost a guarantee that something you like will be available through either program at some point.

Magic 2013, based on the popular Magic: The Gathering card game, is normally a $9.99 (USD) title. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas is a tactical first-person shooter that is normally $19.99. Do either of the games appeal to you?

I already own every Magic game, but 2013 is really good, second only to 2012 IMO in terms of decks available
