I’m a pretty big fan of getting free games whenever possible. As such, it was exciting to see Sony’s recent announcement that customers who pre-order Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse on PSN will receive some nice bonuses.
The first of these will be a dynamic Castle of Illusion theme that customers will be able to apply to the PS3 XrossMediaBar. Next is a small handful of avatars that fans can show off on their PSN account. The most exciting however (from one writer’s perspective) is a free copy of the original Sega Genesis version of Castle of Illusion, which will be available to play immediately after pre-ordering. This is a limited-time offer, lasting only until September 2nd. After that the theme, the avatars, and the free game will no longer be available. Sony has stated that the items will not be for sale afterwards either.
As we already covered in our hands-on impressions at E3 this year: Castle of Illusion is a remake of the 1990 Sega title of the same name. Following a pretty simple story, Minnie is captured by the evil witch Mizrabel, and it’s Mickey’s job to rescue her. The game featured some fairly standard platforming action, with Mickey running and jumping on obstacles and enemies. The remake features much of the same, but also includes 3D environments, making the game feel like much more than a simple reboot.
Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse will be released on September 3rd for PSN, XBLA and PC; but this deal will only be available exclusively through the PlayStation Store. Read more on this game and many others coming to PSN in our most recent PSN Weekly. Take advantage while you can!
