J-Stars Victory VS

The latest issue of Weekly Shonen Jump revealed that Gon Freecss from Hunter X Hunter and Yuusuke Urameshi from Yuu Yuu Hakusho will be joining the roster for the upcoming fighting game J-stars Victory VS. As you would expect, Yuusuke will be able to use his spirit gun, and Gon will use his Janken Guu attack. Yuusuke and Gon both come from series that were written by Yoshihiro Togashi, so it is no surprise that the developers decided to announce them together.

For those of you who have no idea who these characters are, Yuusuke is a high school student who gets killed in a car accident within the first couple of pages of the manga. Yuusuke continues to exist as a ghost who is able to interact and influence the world he lives in. There is much more to the story than that, but any more would involve going into spoilers.

Gon is a young boy training to become a Hunter, an elite bunch of people who take on missions involving finding treasure or even people. At an early age, Gon’s father left his son with his aunt for her to raise and left their home, never to come back. It was assumed that he was dead; however, Gon later finds out that he is still alive and is a Hunter. Gon decides to become a Hunter to find his father and figure out why he left all those years ago. The Hunter X Hunter anime actually received a remake in 2011 that is still airing in Japan.

J-Stars Victory VS is in development for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. There’s still no word on a release date. With Yuusuke and Gon also being there, this is really shaping up to be quite the game. Who do you think will be the next two characters to be announced?
