Monochroma

Joining a growing list of Kickstarter project indie games, Monochroma has been confirmed for the Wii U. Nowhere Studios, the developer of Monochroma, originally planned to release the game for next gen consoles, including the Wii U, among others, but a spokesperson for Nowhere Studios has recently confirmed it for the system. It does come at a price, though.

“We changed our plans from Xbox One, to Wii U,” says the spokesperson. “We always had plans to go for PlayStation, but currently Wii U seems like a better target than Xbox.”

Monochroma is a physics-based puzzle platformer that’s impossible to talk about without bringing up Limbo. Its very aesthetic could easily be mistaken for Limbo 2 if it actually exists. It does borrow a page from Schindler’s List by selectively adding the color red to a couple of objects. Most notably, the protagonist, a young boy, wears a red scarf that trails behind him as he moves.

Also, unlike Limbo, the story appears to be less esoteric. Set in an alternate version of the 1950’s, the protagonist must carry his injured brother through a variety of environments ultimately to put an end to an evil giant corporation.

If funded, Nowhere Studios plans to release the game this December for the Ouya, Wii U, PlayStation Vita, PS4, Windows, Mac, and Linux. The game is also up for vote on Steam Greenlight.

Suffice it to say that he has been known to play hours of Call of Duty multiplayer in between bouts of Persona fusing and Star Coin collecting while saving the world/galaxy through sensibly bald space marines or plucky teenagers with impossible hairstyles. Where does he find the time to write about them?
