Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru to Ruka no Fushigi na Fushigi na Kagi

A few months ago, we caught wind of a rumor that Dragon Quest Monsters 2 could be getting a remake. Well, Square Enix has made it official and announced that DQM2 is indeed being remade for the Nintendo 3DS.

The original Dragon Quest Monsters 2 for Gameboy Color was actually released as two games, each following the tale of a different character. One starred a boy named Ruka, and the other a girl named Iru. These games were localized in the west as Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Cobi’s Journey and Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Tara’s Adventure, respectively. The title for the remake is Iru to Ruka no Fushigi na Fushigi na Kagi, which translates to something along the lines of Iru and Ruka’s Curious, Mysterious Keys. This implies that the remake will somehow merge the stories and include both main characters in the same game.

Cobi's Journey

The Dragon Quest Monsters 2 remake will include both local and online multiplayer for up to eight people. It will also feature StreetPass functionality. A release date has yet to be determined.

Last year, Square Enix released Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D, a remake of the first DQM game. Sadly, Terry’s Wonderland never made it out of Japan, which doesn’t leave much room to hope for a localization of the sequel.
