Final Fantasy X HD

Does everyone remember this story, concerning Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster? It seems, despite a cloud of doubt cast over the majority, that this earlier-reported rumor has proven itself true. Today, a marketing coordinator for Square-Enix officially announced that a Limited Edition of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster does exist—and that those who pre-order the PlayStation 3 version of the game ($39.99) would be eligible for a free upgrade.

Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster Limited Edition Package

There it is. Turns out the Limited Edition features an art book that includes “several pieces of original concept art from the early development phases of FINAL FANTASY X and X-2 over ten years ago, lovingly bound in a beautiful 24-page[s]…” and “quotes and commentary from several of the original development team members, including a special message to you, the fans, from Producer Yoshinori Kitase himself!”

Square-Enix also took the time to put together a standard-versus-HD video comparison of the game(s). I went ahead and embedded that video below; check it out! Did you hear our impressions of the game on one of our E3 Editions of The Downpour Podcast?

The post from Square-Enix has additional information for those “not in the know”—but I gather that many of you are. Of course, if you’re not, here’s the official website with more information. I love when things like this pan out! Now all we need…is a release date.

I plan on getting this for my vita. I hope they live up to the promise of this selling well XII will get the same treatment.

    • Kendra Smith

Me too. I actually went and bought another PS2 last week (my original effectively died on me) just so I could play XII. Very much hoping for the HD treatment for it.

i still wanna know if this is the north american version that they are releasing or the international version

    • Torre Castle

it was announced ages and ages ago that both games are the international version

      THERE IS A GOD!!!

I’m trying to get a clear picture of what exactly is included in the American English HD version (PS3 specifically).

It’s been announced that this includes the International versions of X and X-2.
I’ll assume that includes the international gameplay enhancements to X (e.g. expert sphere grid and dark aeons) and X-2 (extra dresspheres, monster capture/training, etc.).

I’m still confused/unclear on the following points:
    1) Will it include X-2’s Last Mission?
    2) Will Last Mission be English dubbed (which would require new audio recording)?
    3) Will it include the Eternal Calm “interquel” cutscene included with the Japanese X International bonus disc (or some redone version of that scene)?
    4) If Eternal Calm is included will it be English dubbed (which would require new audio recording)?
    5) Will the all-new bonus 30 minute ending be included?
    6) Will the all-new bonus 30 minute ending be voiced and English dubbed?
    7) Will there be a dual English/Japanese audio tracks? (not a deal-killer for me personally, but the option would be nice)

I wish these points would be clarified. If all of the above are yes, then they’ve got my pre-order, otherwise I’m not as sure this is worth my time (given I’ve already have X and X-2 for PS2).

Last mission was already english dubbed, it just didn’t have english subtitles.
I don’t know about the Etertnal calm, but it’s pretty straight forward, these are the INTERNATIONAL versions of the game.. so yes, it will include everything that was in the international versions.

    • Franke Sisto

      Good news indeed!

    • Lance Grabow

the problem is that the international version for europe and japan are different. which version of international is the question

    • dbclick

I wasn’t aware Last Mission was ever dubbed or translated. All the videos and resources I’ve found of it are in Japanese. Source, pretty please? Assuming you’re right, that should answer questions 1 & 2. Apparently I had missed the fact that Eternal Calm was already dubbed since it was included in the European release, so question 4 is answered, but question 3 remains.

    • Xx_Kares_xX

You know what? you may very well be right x.x I’d kind of assumed that it was done in the same way that KH Final Mix was done, with english voices but japanese text… I very well could be wrong and I’m sorry for being incorrect. On the other hand, from the remaster trailers I’ve seen, I’m almost positive some of the EXISTING voice acting has already been rerecorded, so if they already had the voice actors, I don’t see why they couldn’t do the unrecorded stuff as well.

    • dbclick

Any trailers in particular where the lines seem different? I’d love to compare.

It’d be wonderful if some of the voice work was redone; quite a few of lines – Yuna in particular – came out weird due to the way they did timing for lip sync issues back then. At the very least to just voice over Last Mission would be welcome. The official site has next to no info on what’s better for prior players of X and X-2 outside of Japan (of which there are like 3 – 6 million) aside from graphics.

    • Xx_Kares_xX

Yes there are but It will be difficult to find x.x

  • Francis

Hmmm, is it weird that I actually prefer how the characters looked in SD? I’m used to seeing Tidus that tan, and Yuna’s eyes seem to express more emotion in SD too.

    • Xx_Kares_xX

Same here… the backgrounds look nicer… and the detail on the hair as well.. but the faces look like barbie dolls, and the new text/hud look ugly… it looks more like a fan resolution upgrade than an actual finished project.

Is the LE America-only, or will we get it in PAL regions as well?
