PS3 system update menu item

PlayStation 3

This week, some PlayStation 3 owners got a nasty surprise when they found their systems suddenly bricked or their online menus gone after they downloaded system software update version 4.45. Sony acted quickly, and before more damage could be done, they temporarily took 4.45 offline and investigated the cause of the problems.

Now, after apparently finding the issue with the 4.45 update, Sony has assured their loyal customers that they will be ready to launch a fix on June 27th.

While the controversy surrounding this firmware disaster is probably going to haunt Sony for some time, the additions this new update will have shouldn’t be completely ignored. The longtime issue of trophy notifications will be a thing of the past, as Sony promised the ability to turn them off via the System Settings menu.
