Nintendo revealed more information about an upcoming Monolith Soft game in their Nintendo Direct today, which is still being called X. While there wasn’t a lot of new information about the game itself, including its name, Iwata did announce that it will be available in 2014, and detailed some more information about the mechanics of the game.

Monolith Soft’s new game X was announced in the same global Nintendo Direct where Satoru Iwata revealed that they were working on a crossover between Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei. This new game appears very similar to Monolith Soft’s previous game Xenoblade Chronicles, which was released in North America last year. Some key differences include giant mechs that the player can pilot as well as what appears to be online multiplayer. This new game’s release date was announced to be 2014, as of this writing. You can check out the trailer below.

About Kyle Emch

Kyle has been studying music at college for about three years now. He's played the piano since he was 6 years old and has been recently been learning how to write music. He has followed the Operation Rainfall movement on Facebook since it started and was happy to volunteer for the website. Just don't mention Earthbound or the Mother franchise around him.

I hope that the multiplayer is local co-op for the game itself! I also hope the battle system has a bit more to it, like more control of the other characters.

  • Vinicius

I reached a new level of fangasm here.

  • Spookyryu

    This game is awesome

  • air_dex

Still awesome, no doubt about it, however X seems distance itself from Xenoblade Chronicles. The trailer does not show a sequel nor a prequel of XC at all. This is the only sad point in those X news. The rest remains quite awesome and it is definitely Day One for me.

    • Christoffel de Gruyter

No offense, but screw Xenoblade. This looks more like Xenogears and Xenosaga!!

    • air_dex

Impossible after playing the game thrice. And finally this quite Xenoblade-ish picture found in another oprainfall.com article ( http://operationrainfall.com/e3-2013-japanese-x-screenshots/ ) gives me again some hope for a XC sequel http://operationrainfall.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/monolith-soft-x-2-610×343.jpg

Colony 6 in the background ? Telethias in the sky ? Reference to a XC scene with Egil and Arglas (just before Arglas found the Monado and became Zanza) ?

    • Charlotte Buckingham

Good theory, and great observation. It’ll be interesting to see if it pans out.

    • Andy Rhodes

you do realize that Tetsuya Tekahashi, COMMONLY take ideas from his previous works to make new games. he has stated several times that xenogears and xenosaga have nothing to do with each other, and that xenoblade is even farther off than those two. chances are that since this game has absolutely no announced affiliation with previous works (so far) that its probably a new world. but i’d have to agree with you christoffel de gruyter, it looks way more like xenogears than anything else he has ever done.

  • Agustín Varela

    Looks more like Xenogears

  • Cameron Ward

mmm i kind of hate if this game is really going with the multiplayer route with this game….

  • the_sidewinder

    optional multiplayer plz!

  • WTF

    • PKUltima

Maybe because Nintendo’s studios make some of the best software in the world? I don’t know, it’s just a guess.

    • Chrom

Why is the x box one even going too be made it has a more wastefull concept abort the xbox one

  • HeroOfGames16

If this game comes to Europe, I’ll definitely buy the Wii U!

  • I want.

I say this as someone who wasn’t particularly enamoured with Xenoblade.

  • Shulkia

We need another OP rainfall to ensure Nintendo´s promote the hell out of this game :3

    • Andy Rhodes

seeing as its been on 2 worldwide nintendo directs, it going to come to the US no matter what. there are several games nintendo has shown in the Japanese nintendo directs that havent even been mentioned here.

  • RagunaXL

0:36 seconds the guy standing in front of the mech appears to be the blonde ‘shulk’ like character. before that is the black-haired guy, controlled in the previous video, walking through the hangar.

This is very much a mech vs. dinosaurs game. there is a modern l.a. or tokyo looking city that these people live in and possibly an energy crisis. I figure this from the 60% ticker on the tower at 0:53 seconds.

In the same world as Xenoblade Chronicles? who cares, it plays similar, has mechs, and appears to be a very new story. If it is in the same world as XC than it is so far removed from XC on the ‘time line’ than there probably is no way of saying.

though…the J-Pop song in the demo is TERRIBLE!
