Beyond: Two souls

Yesterday, during Sony’s E3 conference, Quantic Dream debuted a trailer hot off the grill for their upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive BEYOND: Two Souls. The explosive trailer informed eager fans of some vital story details as well as showcased some snippets of possible gameplay. Then today on the show floor in the Quantic Dream booth, the developers put together a short but sweet video explaining the gameplay mechanics in further detail. Check it out down below.

BEYOND: Two Souls is a much different game than Heavy Rain; the trailer proves it nicely. The arguably unique controls have been replaced with a much more traditional control scheme. For instance, walking/running with R2 has been replaced with simple control stick inputs, and while quick-time-events aren’t necessarily gone, they have been replaced with a much more intuitive slow motion control stick method. Also, the way the developers handled the heads up display is brilliant. Never will an abstract circle or x button float over important areas; white dots now play the role of showing what can be interacted with.  Judging by the changes, Quantic Dream is trying their darnedest to not break the immersion and tension of what is heavily considered one of the most anticipated games of the closing generation.

BEYOND: Two Souls will be released October 8 for the PlayStation 3, and is available for pre-order at Amazon, Amazon.ca and GameStop.
