Microsoft has announced the price and release window of the Xbox One. Expect it to hit the United States sometime in November 2013 at $499.99 USD. It will be €499.99 in Europe and £429 in the United Kingdom.

At $499.99 USD, Microsoft is ducking below the $500 threshold of the PS3. The PS3 infamously released at $599.99 USD in 2006, much to the chagrin of everyone involved. Since then, $500 has become the unofficial upper limit that gamers are willing to spend on a game console. Microsoft seems rather cognizant of this, and has set their console below that price.

Now, we wait for Sony to reveal the price of the PS4. Stay tuned.

You can now pre-order the Xbox One at Amazon.com.

About Karli Winata

Karli Winata is an avid gamer with a taste for a little bit of everything. Except for sports games. And racing sims. And definitely not hidden object games! I guess everything is too broad a term. Suffice it to say that he has been known to play hours of Call of Duty multiplayer in between bouts of Persona fusing and Star Coin collecting while saving the world/galaxy through sensibly bald space marines or plucky teenagers with impossible hairstyles. Where does he find the time to write about them?

$500? What a joke. Does anyone remember the PS3 launch?

I will not be spending $500 on a system that treats me like a criminal for wanting to play games I purchased, and has a built in camera piping my data back to Microsoft and the NSA 24/7.

  • Aiddon

well, thousands of people just went flaccid.

    • Jeremy Barnes

That assumes anybody wanted this thing at any price.

    • Ashitaka

Not a damn person had a boner over this clusterfuck in the first place.

      All the dudebrah’s say hi.

Seriously though, over at trueachievements.com, there are a ton of people who have been ecstatic over this… thing. So many people boasting that they just put in their pre-orders.

PS4 was actually $500 and $600, though, wth no requirement to get the more expensive unit.

  • Kyle Emch

There really aren’t any games on the system that I’m interested in that could possibly justify that price. Then again, given the horrendously anti-consumer nature of the Xbox One, I don’t think it can be justified at any price.

This. My current gen systems are going at it fine and I doubt they’ll discontinue making games for them any time soon so there’s no point.

499.99 minimum because if you want the full Xbox live experience, you will need to pony a yearly subscription….

My 360 Xbox Live subscription is going into the 4th year soon and it was a great ride, unfortunately the end is soon for it. Too bad I won’t be able to continue the fight with Master Chief. Halo is a great series that I thoroughly enjoyed and I love the 360 controller, one of my favorite controller.

Rest assured MS, I will be continuing to play my backlog 360 games until I am done eventually in my life. Still got a backlog of PS1-2-3 games to go.

MS DRM policies are something I am not compliant with, so Sony, tonight is your turn to confirmed if I am continuing with you and Nintendo or just with Nintendo!

  • Jeremy Barnes

ROFL! I think at this point, Microsoft is just trolling. It really seems they don’t want to make xboxes anymore so they’re just making it sooo bad that they can then be like, ah man, it sells worse than Windows Phone so we’re gonna stop.

  • SirPrimalform

I wouldn’t have wanted one for $25 let alone $500. I’d only use something that had that kind of DRM if you gave it and all the games to me for free.

  • Deepdarkspace

    PS4 $399. 😀
