From Phantom Breaker: Extra

Announced by Famitsu magazine giving limited information, Phantom Breaker: Extra by Mages will be released for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Phantom Breaker: Extra is an enhanced version (a “Super” or “Ultimate” version if you will) of the original Phantom Breaker game developed by 5pb.

The anime-styled fighter was originally released in Japan as an exclusive title for the Xbox 360 in June 2011. The game was going to be released in North America in 2012 but was cancelled for unknown reasons. Phantom Breaker saw a spin-off title called Phantom Breaker: Battlegrounds, which was a 2D side-scrolling beat-em-up game by Division2 and published by Mages. The game featured super-deformed caricatures of the original characters, and both looked and played quite similarly to the Scott Pilgrim VS. The World game. It was localized by the publisher 5pb Inc., and it is available on Xbox Live.

According to our source, the publisher 7sixty has announced that it will be releasing Phantom Breaker: Extra soon, but no further information was explained. An English version of the enhanced game is said to exist in the hands of journalists, but does not explain more except confirming that localization may be under way.

A release date has yet to be announced, so stay tuned for further news.
