Ghost in the Shell: ARISE

Toho and Bandai Channel have released a new, lengthy, and action-packed trailer for the upcoming Ghost in the Shell: ARISEAnimated by Production I.G., the four episode OVA-series will be a prequel to the original Ghost in the Shell. The trailer is based on the first episode alone, and contains a lot of style, action, and content that should excite fans of the series.

As stated in a previous article, Kenji Kamiyama, the director of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and S.A.C. 2nd Gig is not involved in the making of Ghost in the Shell: ARISE. Kazuchika Kise is directing the prequel series, and Tow Ubukata (Mardock Scramble) is writing the screenplay.

You can watch the trailer below:

From what was shown in the trailer, we are able to see more of the younger and newly designed Motoko Kusanagi in action. She is still voiced by Maaya Sakamoto (Lightning in Final Fantasy XIII) and encounters a less-graying Chief Aramaki, along with Batou and Togusa, and a couple of old and new characters that could be friend or foe. The animations look as cinematic as ever, and the art designs appear to have a stylistic balance between those from the Stand Alone Complex series, and the original films — Ghost in the Shell, and GitS 2: Innocence.

The first episode of Ghost in the Shell: ARISE will be screened theatrically in Japan on June 22nd, followed by a home video release on July 26th.
