Hardware Sales

3DS 76.553
PS Vita 41.073
PS3 22.942
PSP 12.690
Wii U 11.398
Wii 1.720
Xbox 360 610

Ladies and gentlemen, the Xbox 360 exists in Japan. Sure, sales may have been pretty much flatlining for Microsoft’s console, but I have proof that the Japanese have indeed heard of this thing. Just look to the 12th spot on the Media Create chart, and you’ll find Microsoft Studios’ newest game, Gears of War: Judgment. Sure, it only sold 23,000, but when am I ever going to talk about the Xbox 360 in this series? This is pretty much it.

For the ongoing uptrend of the Vita, you will notice a slight improvement over last week’s 36,000. Now, the Vita did have new games coming out this week (One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2, Atelier Meruru Plus, Pro Baseball Spirits 2013, and Dead or Alive 5+), along with Soul Sacrifice making another appearance on the chart. However, they didn’t have anything close to a 100,000+ seller this week. So, as was said last week, this 30,000–40,000 result in hardware sales is more than likely the actual result of the price cut and the new baseline for its sales.

Nintendo returns to the top of the software charts, with Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon selling 280,151. However, aside from Animal Crossing: New Leaf marching briskly toward 3 million, there is very little good news on the software side of things. Nintendo’s flagship handheld grabbed 6 spots in this week’s Media Create Top 20, a drop from last week’s 8 spots. The other two new games on the charts—Pretty Rhythm: My Deco Rainbow Wedding and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate (when else would you ever group two games like this together?)—managed sales of only 33,466 and 14,148 respectively. Hopefully, Luigi’s Mansion will have the same staying power as Animal Crossing and help push sales of the 3DS.

All of last week’s top 5 return to the chart. Last week’s #1, Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment, experienced an 87% drop-off, possibly from selling out (seems to be a trend). Super Robot Wars UX also experienced a major drop-off, as well, going down 84%. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMIX holds on to the Top 10 with 29,401. Animal Crossing continues to sell. And Soul Sacrifice hangs in there on its third week with 15,488.

  • Oh my goodness, people in Japan buy Gears of War? And here I thought they had better taste than that. I kid! Seriously though, I have been enjoying Luigi’s Mansion. It’s repetitive and the gyroscope bits make me want to punch something, but it’s an enjoyable experience once you get past that.

  • I’m actually shocked Luigi’s Mansion did that well.

  • smacd

Anyone played Luigi’s Mansion yet? I never played the first one, but I usually enjoy most first party Nintendo games. Metacritic is giving it a respectable 86 right now. Any opinions?

    • It’s a really fun game. You should REALLY pick it up when you have the chance.

    • So far, I’m really enjoying it. Fun and creative.

    • Spookyryu

So far so good, it’s just as good as the first one

  • No wonder i see so many japanese players in the only scare scamper mode.
