Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams

Good news today for fans of all things retro and platformer. The ambitious platformer title Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, developed and published by Black Forest Games and funded by fan donations on Kickstarter, is coming to the Wii U.

Twisted Dreams, sequel to Giana Sisters DS and successor to Great Giana Sisters for the Commodore 64, essentially looks like a beautiful hybrid of Rayman Legends and Klonoa. Players control the titular Giana, who has set off to save her sister Maria, who has been captured by a giant dragon. While it may sound somewhat mundane, the gameplay and music look anything but.

The game utilizes a mechanic wherein Giana switches between her Cute and Punk personas to access various abilities, such as gliding while Cute or aggressively dashing while Punk. The game quickly reached its full stretch goals, allowing Black Forest Games to utilize a maximum of 20 different levels. Currently, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is available for PC via Steam and GOG.com. XBLA players will be able to enjoy it as early as next week, while a specific release date has not yet been revealed for the PS3 or Wii U. Whenever that happens to be, I will be one of the very first to download it from the eShop.
