Thief

After nearly a decade of waiting, Thief fans will finally get to see a sequel to this franchise. Today, Square Enix has unveiled Thief for the PC and “Next Generation Consoles.” This will not be an updated version of the original Thief: The Dark Project but the next iteration in the series. Starring the series’ protagonist/kleptomaniac, Garrett remains the skillful thief as he ever was in a morally gray world. Eidos Montréal (Deus Ex: Human Revolution) has been developing Thief presumably since 2009, when the project was announced.

Developed by Looking Glass Studios, Thief: The Dark Project came out in 1998 to rave reviews by introducing a number of innovations to the stealth genre that can still be seen today. Perhaps its greatest contribution to the genre is by introducing it to the world. No other game at the time focuses as heavily on avoiding direct confrontations as Dark Project did, let alone in first person view. Its two sequels kept the series in high regards even after Looking Glass Studios closed. ION Storm Studios took the reins for the third game.

Square Enix has not announced any release details. However, more info will be on the way as Game Informer will have a cover story in their April issue

Karli Winata
Karli Winata is an avid gamer with a taste for a little bit of everything. Except for sports games. And racing sims. And definitely not hidden object games! I guess everything is too broad a term. Suffice it to say that he has been known to play hours of Call of Duty multiplayer in between bouts of Persona fusing and Star Coin collecting while saving the world/galaxy through sensibly bald space marines or plucky teenagers with impossible hairstyles. Where does he find the time to write about them?
