NIS America

At 6PM PST today, NIS America, also known as NISA, held an event for members of the press. Being lovers of niche games, we at Oprainfall love all of the publishing work NISA do in the states, and the games they develop.

Nippon Ichi Software will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this July, and as a result, some wonderful announcements for fans of niche games and anime alike were made today. What were they, you ask? Keep reading to find out!

NIS America opened their presentation by informing us that The Witch and the Hundred Knights is nearing completion. Hopefully we’ll hear more on a release date soon!

Character Chowdown is a game designed to teach the player some Japanese; the quicker you identify Japanese language characters, the higher your level will become. Expect more information this Spring. As someone who wants to learn more Japanese, I find this incredibly exiting.

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness is thus named due to it being a more light-hearted game than previous entries in the series. It is designed to be more streamlined than its predecessors. A Brighter Darkness is due to release this Fall.

The God and Fate Revolution Paradox was announced for localisation by NISA under the name Guided Fate Paradox.

Finally, NISA have confirmed that they will be releasing both the game and the anime for Toki to Towa: Time and Eternity this Summer.

Thank you for reading, and thank you NIS America for showcasing all these amazing games! Stay tuned to oprainfall for the latest in Japanese news and reviews!

  • Reviews say Tokitowa is not an amazing game.

    • reviews for jrpg are shit, its better to see the game by yourself.

    • Well, when a person who loves JRPG’s enough to import them says the game isn’t good, I’m going to trust him.

    • Lightthrower

I tried it and what I can say is that the graphics are great, but not the gameplay. *edit* However, you should buy it since it’s a pretty unique RPG and to support NISA.

    • That’s pretty much what the reviews said along with criticism of the story for relying on tired tropes and cliches, having a cast filled with cardboard cutout characters based on popular anime archetype with a highly unlikable male protagonist and heroines who aren’t a whole lot better, and generally suffers from a severe lack of content. Plus Imageepoch doesn’t have the best track record.

    • Agreed, IE messed up Fate/Extra. The games story was great, but the droll battle system left a lot to be desired. And Fate CCC still has the same one sadly….
And I have to admit that I will buy everything but Character Chowdown.
Really Excited God and Fate is coming, I was worried it may not.
And who isn’t excited about a sequel to the best Disgaea.

    • Charlotte Buckingham

I, personally, take reviews with a game of salt. I prefer trying a game out for myself if I think it looks interesting. Because everyone enjoys different types of games, and what one person may dislike may be something I enjoy.

    • Again, this is a reviewer so excited for the game he imported it.

Have all the salt you like, but I can wait on others with similar tastes to myself to review and try it out.

    • I’ll just wait to see myself. The gameplay i seen so far looks really good. Only title that NIS has that truly sucks is Cross Edge. Such a waste but whatever

    • Cross Edge is awesome… I still don’t get why people hate that game.

And you’re forgetting Last Rebellion, while not good, I liked it anyway.

    • To be fair, that was more Idea Factory’s fault than anything else.

  • im geting them alll im a a NISA Nerd lol and proud of it

  • Extremely happy about The God and Fate Revolution Paradox localisation. huge fan of Z.H.P , read that it has similar gameplay, which is zettai awesome

  • YES!!!! I’ll buy them all. Huge fan of NIS/NISA.

  • I am very much interested in each of these – curse you NIS! >3<

  • ScienceNonfiction

I’ve heard mixed things about Toki to Towa, but I’m willing to give the game a shot. The only other Imageepoch game I’ve played is Arc Rise Fantasia and, awful voice acting aside, I really loved that game. And the whole concept of an “HD Animation RPG” is pretty interesting so I think I’ll try it out.

Super excited by God and Fate — awesome character designer. Toki Towa gameplay video looks bad. For a game touting its hand cel animation, there simply aren’t enough frames per second. The animation looks extremely jerky. I wouldn’t want to watch that for extended periods of time, and it would get very monotonous. Do it right or don’t do it at all.
