London, UK — February 7th, 2013
— Today, Ubisoft announced that its forthcoming title Rayman Legends, already announced for the Wii UTM system from Nintendo, will also be released on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. All versions will now hit shelves in early September 2013.

The Microsoft Xbox 360® and Sony PlayStation® 3 versions of Rayman Legends are being developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the same team behind the Nintendo Wii UTM game. Rayman Legends has been praised for its stunning visuals and innovative gameplay by media around the world and labeled as one of the most anticipated platformers of 2013.

“We heard from many Xbox & Playstation owners and Rayman fans who told us they really wanted to play Rayman Legends on their current system”, says Geoffroy Sardin, EMEA Chief Marketing & Sales Officer. ”We decided to give the fans what they wanted while at the same time broadening the audience exposed to this innovative and memorable game.”

Rayman Legends retains the fantasy appeal of its predecessor while adding a multitude of clever and entertaining gaming modes, new characters, new environments and a new soundtrack. The award-winning team of artists, designers and composers from Origins has also returned with an advanced UbiArt engine to include multi-dimension gameplay elements, an improved lighting system and updated game rendering that elevate Rayman’s graphics to the next level.

  • What. The. Actual. Fuck.
Before, they were going to keep it exclusive due to the GamePad and Murphy.
    Just fuck.

  • The delay is what hurts the Wii U the most since it seems it was basically done.
Now I don’t know what to make of Ubisoft’s praise for the Wii U platform and the Gamepad and how it made the game unique to the platform and that if the game had to be on other platforms, it would have to be changed drastically. Lies?

    • ABEzilla116

I remember them saying “Its still a WiiU exclusive” several months ago and reassuring everyone that it would stay as one at least at launch. I’d say, lies. Either that or the ongoing delay was so they could implement those changes. This game just dropped off my radar. I’m annoyed of the delays.

  • this doesnt make any sense. it was made with the Wii U in mind so what sense does its new game mechanics have to do with being on the PS3 and 360? i can understand if they got nervous of not making enough back on just the Wii U exclusivity, but if they were really going to help Nintendo and be a good third party developer for the Wii U, they should have just kept it an exclusive and not port it onto consoles that dont make a whole lot of sense being on.

  • Oh great… we’re already seeing mass porting of console exclusives for the WiiU. Oh JOY…

    Fuck Ubisoft.

I’m happy the game is coming to other consoles. But the Wii U version was finished and was supposed to be in stores in like two weeks. Now we have to wait months so they can make the other versions? Why not release the Wii U version now when they were supposed to and they can release the other versions when they are ready. At least it would help mitigate their insistent claims that it would be Wii U exclusive, which they stated many, many times over the past few months.

    And honestly, fuck Ubisoft.

if it makes any difference, I’m not pissed that the game is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 – I’m glad more people get to play it.

I’m pissed because I already paid for my pre-order and was expecting the game to come out on the 23rd, which is only a few days away.

Fuck Ubisoft. They essentially are stealing my money and holding onto it for another 7 months

You’re not mad about exclusivity, but I bet Nintendo is furious. They were promised a great exclusive launch title, and for most launches, you can count the number of great exclusive launch titles on one hand. The Wii U is no exception, I count Nintendo Land, NSMB U, and ZombiU (maybe). Rayman’s one of three that were supposed to be launch, but were delayed (in addition to Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101).

So I bet Satoru Iwata’s got a dartboard with Yves Guillemot’s face on it set up right now.

    • ^^This. A thousand times this. I could care less if it’s exclusive or not. In fact, I’m glad more people get to play it. But Wii U owners were promised it as a launch title, and then for Feb, and now it’ll be a full year late even though it’s pretty much done? No.

It is super nonsensical. Porting is fine, but a 7 month delay is stupid in every sense. If it released now, they could start making money off of it, and they would keep Nintendo, and those who were going to buy the game soon, happy. Instead they greatly annoy a large group of people, with no perceivable financial benefit to themselves, and they risk losing money by releasing the game in the crowded holiday season, where it will face off against countless other big name games. Right now the WiiU needs games, and filling that void would have resulted in much larger sales then releasing after the library has grown. I just don’t understand the business logic here…

  • Greedy ass holes they cant keep there damn words they have to make it mullti platform just because they want money that’s all.

  • There will be too many good games come September that I won’t be rewarding Ubisoft with a day 1 purchase. I will wait for the $20 price drop and stick it to them…

  • Dang it, Ubisoft! The Wii U has nothing else this month. Unless Gearbox decides to release the Wii U version of Aliens: Colonial Marines early. And what a stupid business move this is. Now, Rayman Legends is going to have to compete with the likes of GTA V, Pokemon X and Y, and Wind Waker HD. It’s practically doomed to bomb.

Looky here! Another company who want to join my list of “maybe getting their game when they are below 20$ or buying used if applicable or never getting it”.

Regardless of their reasoning and saying 3rd party exclusives wont make sense, etc blablaba. If Rayman Legends going multi….I DO EXPECT Watch Dogs to show up on Wii U. Any other excuse wont cut it Ubi Soft. Nada!

As consumer I vote with my wallet, if MS not allowing used games for Durango and Sony following in similar pattern for the Orbis. STFU and dont take my money. As simple as that. As got load of backlog games to go through, thank you.

  • Why can’t they just make it a timed exclusive? No se- seriously, WHY? That makes A LOT more sense to me. The game is done! Or at least pretty much done. What excuse is there to not make it a timed exclusive??? I can only play the demo a limited number of times on the Wii U you know…… Fuck Ubisoft……

  • Honestly, all you folks that pre-ordered it for the Wii U should simply cancel their orders. I’m sure Ubisoft will take notice of that. Also, write emails stating your absolute displeasure for this unwarranted delay.

  • Hec4Mets

See and people wonder why 3rd parties don’t get a foothold on Nintendo consoles… its business decisions like this that screw the 3rd parties royally on Nintendo consoles you had a great opportunity to capitalize on a month with no big releases on the Wii U and now your going to wait till September to release when there will be bigger games coming out by then gotta love the logic of publishers nowadays.
