Sonic the Hedgehog

In an interview conducted by the magazine Toys ‘N’ Playthings, Sega Europe’s Head of Brand Licensing, Sissel Henno, confirmed that there are indeed plans for new Sonic titles to be released in the impending year of 2013. Though the interview was mostly centered around the franchise’s various other merchandise, it also confirmed that there are several digital Sonic games on the way – as well as a brand new boxed game.

Over the next year there will be a big focus across the toy distribution across Europe. Similarly, we will also be growing the apparel, publishing and stationary categories. We will have several new digital titles launching as well as a new boxed game, so there will be plenty of opportunities to link marketing campaigns across games and merchandise.

One of these digital releases is sure to be the HD release of the arcade game Sonic the Fighters confirmed for PSN/XBLA. As for the boxed release, one can only speculate. As oprainfall’s self-proclaimed Speculatron, I say there may be a chance this mystery title could be the third entry in the much loved Sonic Adventure series. Based on the recent HD releases of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, and the mysterious appearance of Sonic Adventure 3 domains registered earlier this year this is not impossibility. Due to Sonic’s return to glory in Generations, hoping for something amazing is not simple tomfoolery anymore.

What do you think this new title could be? Will it be the game to save Sega, or another werewolf fiasco? Let us know in the comments!
