The development of The Last Guardian has been a troubled one. Between delays, rumors of cancellation, and director Fumito Ueda’s departure from Sony, the project can’t seem to catch a break. For any of you out there hoping to get your hands on it next year, we’ve got some more bad news for you.

Shuhei Yoshida, head of Sony Worldwide Studios, was interviewed by French site JeuxVideo.fr and had this to say on a 2013 release: “No, sorry, I can not say that…Because the last time we talked about a date for The Last Guardian, we finally disappointed many people. But I can tell you that the team is working hard on the project, including the engine. It is precisely because the teams working on the technical aspect of the game that we have nothing concrete to show you today. So now I’m waiting for the right time to introduce you to The Last Guardian and speak with confidence of a release date.”

Looks like we will all have to wait a bit longer until we can play Team ICO’s next masterpiece for ourselves. At least they still seem committed to it, ensuring that it lives up to the high pedigree set by ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.
