Karateka

The remake of the classic side-scrolling, martial arts, action game Karateka is now available on Xbox Live Arcade and will be available on the PlayStation Network later this month. The game is also slated to be released on the Wii U, PC, and mobile devices. It’s priced at 800 Microsoft points, and there’s a demo if you’re unsure about purchasing it.

Karateka has you control an unnamed protagonist as you attempt to rescue his beloved, Princess Mariko, from Akuma’s fortress.  Using a combination of elements from side-scrolling platforms and fighting games, you face Akuma and his guards as you make your way deeper into the fortress.  The game was a breakthrough success for developer Jordon Mechner, who would go on to create the Prince of Persia series.

The game was originally released on the Apple 2. It then went on to be ported on numerous other platforms there after, such as the Atari 7800, Commodore 64, DOS, Famicom, the original Gameboy, and many more.
