I’m sure North American One Piece fans’ faces look something like this.

One Piece hasn’t done as well here in America as it could have. FUNimation has tried their best to help the series gain a sort of cult following, but the Straw Hats still have never met the same levels of popularity as Bleach or Naruto. Nowhere is that more clear than with the video game releases. The last one we got was One Piece: Unlimited Adventure…in 2008.

Now, finally, the latest One Piece game is landing on North America’s shores through a digital release on PSN! Pirate Warriors is developed by Tecmo Koei, and as you might have guessed from the title, it borrows the gameplay from their Dynasty Warriors series. That means you can expect swarms of enemies as you button mash your way through the story arcs of One Piece.

Are any fans of the series out there picking up this game?

If I weren’t turbo broke I’d have this in a heartbeat. Love me some One Piece and this game looks AMAZING!

  • I am. I’m going to download it once I get home from work. I really have been looking forward to this game for a long long time! I’m a fan of the Koei warrior series, but a even bigger one peice fan so this is a must own for me!

  • how much is it?

We don’t know yet! There has been no word on the price. It will likely be in the $40-$50 range since it is a full box release in other territories. But, since it has no physical version to price match with here…I’m hoping it’s a bit less. Guess we’ll find out for sure when the PSN updates later today!

    • The game is already out in Europe for 75 EUR, which is about 95 USD. Expect something similar when the game reaches the US.

  • Not a big fan of the KOEI Warrior games; my general displeasure of it stems from about 4-5 years of playing the the entire Dynasty Warriors Gundam series (as of 2010), particularly the third installment. I’m not really a fan of One Piece, either. My knowledge on the series is based mostly on the weekly manga podcast that speaks passionately about it and the 4Kids dub that more or less cemented its reputation here. A series that good with very little exposure to the Western mainstream is almost a crime.

That being said, I might give this one a try. While I might not fully enjoy the gameplay, I’m hoping that it will at least enlighten me with its story and database (one of the few qualities I actually enjoy in the KOEI Warrior games).

  • im a fan of the series and i love DW games but im not buying the game. id rather not spend  $40+ on a digital copy only game.
