News from playxbla.com has revealed that Microsoft has renewed the trademark on Killer Instinct. As their website name implies, they’re mainly exclusive about Xbox Live Arcade titles.

Here is what the website had to say:

Our legal eagles have authorized us to say: “We have either renewed or refiled a trademark application in various jurisdictions.”

Can this be what we Killer Instinct fans have been waiting for? Can it be a new installment? It could most likely be that Microsoft refiled it so they simply wouldn’t lose the use of the name. We will see in time.

  • Killer Instinct: Nuts and Bolts

  • Umm… i am sorry to be moodkiller, but renewing a trademark doesn’t mean that a game it’s been in the works or about to localize (in terms of localizing a japanese game), renewing a trademark ot’s for preventing to other companies or people to prevent for stealing or using an already exisiting name for of purposes

    • That was mentioned in the article…no one is jumping to conclusions, although the news came from Microsoft itself, which is why people are raising eyebrows.

  • god dammit, Nintendo should have acted quickly

Hopefully, if this does lead to a new game being made, it’s not done by current Rare, since they’re basically a shell of their former selves.

  • Too bad it doesn’t really mean anything.  Microsoft should at least try to do something with Rare’s IPs as opposed to letting them stagnate.

I loved Killer Instinct Gold for the N64. It was the only fighting game I ever played that wasn’t Mortal Kombat.
