Beyond Nintendo’s own offerings at the company’s Wii U press event this past Thursday, numerous third parties were also on hand to either show off or announce their own Wii U projects.  Many of these games are, perhaps unsurprisingly, ports of existing titles that have either already been released or are due for release on rival platforms.  One such game is Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper, a Wii U-exclusive update to Tecmo Koei’s hack-and-slash crossover title Warriors Orochi 3. Like the original version, Hyper is a crossover between the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors franchises, with additional appearances from characters such as Ryu Hayabusa and Ayane from Team Ninja’s Ninja Gaiden series, as well as additional historical and mythological figures included specifically for this game.

The trailer makes mention of a couple of interesting Wii U-specific items.  One is a new Duel Mode exclusive to Hyper.  Duel Mode is a head-to-head battle mode that combines the standard fighting action with some form of card battling.  This particular mode can also be played online.

The other new feature highlighted is related to local multiplayer.  One player can play the game on the Wii U Gamepad display, while the second can use the TV.  It’s unclear how this experience will work out for both players, given the stark disparity in screen size, but it does alleviate the issues inherent to split-screen multiplayer displays.

Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper is due for release in North America this holiday season.
