Yesterday, it was announced on the PlayStation Blog that Psychonauts will officially be re-released on the PlayStation Network as a PS2 Classic on August 28th in North America (no release date for other territories at this time, sadly). The game was a huge critical success when it was originally released in 2005, but it didn’t sell that well. Fortunately, it received much more success later on digital storefronts, especially on Steam.

Psychonauts is one of my favorite games on the PS2. It’s why I included it on the Honorable Mentions in the Top 10 PlayStation 2 games poll. It’s the game that made me a huge fan of Tim Schafer and Double Fine Studios. It’s the reason I backed Double Fine Adventure on KickStarter. I know it’s not a JRPG, but Psychonauts is a game you HAVE to play. If you haven’t played this title when it was originally released and you haven’t already purchased it on XBLA or Steam, you have absolutely no excuse not to pick this one up.
